Joana joined Hearbase in December 2012. She is the senior audiologist at the Deal branch. As well as being responsible for the private hearing aid service here, she specialises in tinnitus support and counselling, ear care and wax removal. She also works at our branches in Folkestone, Ashford, Canterbury and Charing.
After gaining her audiology degree in Porto, Joana worked in some of the major hospitals and hearing centres in Portugal. Working in diagnosis and rehabilitation with people of all ages, Joana tested hearing and fitted hearing aids from the world’s leading manufacturers. She was also part of a team who screened newborn babies for hearing loss.
While in Portugal Joana organised audiology sessions at primary and elementary schools, arranged hearing aid workshops and carried out hearing screening with children and adults.
She says: “Working for Hearbase is very gratifying. Ever since I started my audiology studies I had wanted to come and work in England. The best thing about my job is seeing the smiles and happiness of my patients when they can hear again.”
When not working Joana is keen on music, sport and photography.
